Abstract
Employee retention is often evaluated through resignations and employee attrition and on one hand, keeping the employees within the organisation. This study focused on determining whether there are significant relationships between employee retention, job satisfaction and organisational commitment of detectives in the SAPS in the City of Tshwane. Several reports confirm that there is insufficient capacity within the detective units of the SAPS. The researcher limited the study to the City of Tshwane Central. Data was collected through comprehensive questionnaires within the quantitative research approaches. The Partial List Square Equation Model was used to analyse the data. Most of the respondents reported their dissatisfaction regarding their salaries and benefits, though they commended their professional relationship with their supervisors. There was no evidence revealed by the study on the job satisfaction to be influencing organisational commitment and employee retention amongst detectives within the SAPS in the City of Tshwane. The study includes the recommendations which should be implemented to improve the predicament.
