Abstract
This study strives to check whether Sepedi as one of the five official languages has been used to its full capacity in the Greater Letaba Local Municipality, Limpopo province, as a language for official communicative purpose. The municipality has five official languages. In view of the fact that Sepedi is one of these official languages of the Limpopo province, it deserves to be treated with the respect it ought to have. Although Sepedi is supported nationally and provincially, the study has found out that locally there is still inequality amongst the use of Sepedi and English at this municipality. The research methods used in this study include qualitative, quantitative and content analysis research methods. Interviews as well as survey techniques have been used to collect data. The most important recommendations in this study are that the municipality must have a Language Unit (LU), because English is still used as a language of administration at this municipality rather than Sepedi. Lastly, the municipality must implement its language policy.
