Abstract
This study evaluated the retention strategy for talented educators in secondary schools in Ga-Rankuwa to serve as a guideline within the Department of Basic Education (DBE) in South Africa. It is a key challenge for South African education institutions that an increasing number of talented education professionals leave the profession. This study aimed to assess factors contributing to talented educators leaving the education profession in secondary schools in Ga-Rankuwa by evaluating the retention strategies secondary schools have. The study investigated subject allocation and responsibilities mismatch, career development opportunities, motivation level of management, stress levels from overwork, and work-life balance. A structured questionnaire was used as the primary data collection method. This study used a quantitative cross-sectional review approach. The sample comprised a probability sample of (N=64) educators employed at seven secondary schools in Ga-Rankuwa. The findings confirmed that the retention strategy implemented has a statistically significant impact on retaining talented talent in secondary schools in Ga-Rankuwa. The research further highlights the importance of cooperation and teamwork between school management, the district office, and the DBE. These results provide added information for redesigning a framework for retention strategy that will encourage and promote retention of talented educators in primary schools.
