Abstract
The influx of the usage of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) within the societal realm has seen an increase in the introduction of these ICT resources into the educational world. The actual adoption of these ICT resources by teachers in the classroom, however, has been disappointingly low. Hence this study explores the integration of AutoCAD in the EGD classroom. In this context, the ICT tool that the study spoke of is AutoCAD which is a software that is used in Engineering and Graphics and Design (EGD). The study used a qualitative approach to collect data. Convenience sampling was utilized to choose the seven EGD teachers who participated in the study. The methods used to collect the data were interviewed because the aim was to get an interpretive understanding from the participants, hence the adopted paradigm. The theoretical framework used to support this study was the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The data was analysed using thematic analysis methods. The findings of this study discovered that EGD teachers in the Bohlabela District are ready to infuse ICT into teaching and learning as they indicated that ICT integration in EGD lessons is essential but there are a few challenges like the shortage of ICT Resources that are proving to be a stumbling block. The study recommends a course of action for policy; for the curriculum writers to collaborate with the EGD teachers to update the current curriculum with the inclusion of when and where AutoCAD should be used. The study recommends the DBE provide all schools offering EGD with an AutoCAD license because some of the schools cannot afford it. The study further recommends that DBE must also provide adequate security because some schools’ resources were stolen.
