Abstract
Full potential realisation of industry 4.0 (i4.0) technologies and circular economy concepts towards implementation of sustainable supply chains (SCs), is yet to be achieved. Cloud manufacturing (CM) systems are shifting from being product-oriented to service-oriented, through servitization. In CM, manufacturing inputs and processes are interlinked, making data traceability along the information and value chain possible for knowledge management. This paper illustrates how integration of emerging technologies, is extended for product lifecycle management (PLM) utilising supply chain management (SCM), in part manufacturing of boxed flat sheet metal parts for railcar manufacturing. The value offering of a product/service is dependent on methodologies employed in its product lifecycle from inception to end-of-life (EOL). Life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology is used for part and order tracing for railcar remanufacturing in supply chain (SC). The study focused on optimising PLM through integration of blockchain and CM for traceability, using SC information systems. The result is an intelligent SCM system for PLM, enabled by a blockchain-based CM system.
